“Damnit, Ryder. Give it back!”

With a forceful yank, I manage to seize my dream book and clutch it tight to my chest. I realize I must look like a spoiled brat fighting over my possessions, but it’s with good reason.

Ryder chuckles and raises his hands as a sign of surrender. “I’m just messing with you. I’d never go through your stuff without your permission.”

My face flushes with embarrassment, and I actively avoid making eye contact with him.

It’s not that I have a problem with him looking through my stuff, but this book is personal. It lists every silly dream I’ve had since I was a little girl, with magazine cut-outs of my dream house, family, and goals.

Hell, it even has pictures of a shirtless Colin Farrel—I had a crush on him a few years ago, sue me.

But, perhaps the bigger issue is that if Ryder were to open it, he’d discover just how much I’ve been pining after him.

“Hopefully, someday, you’ll feel comfortable sharing your dreams with me.”

I throw him an incredulous stare. “How do you know my dreams are in here?” I’m not even attempting to hide the accusatory tone in my voice. “Have you already seen what’s inside this book?”

Ryder points to the book pressed against my chest. “I don’t need to open it. You literally wrote ‘dream book’ on the front cover. That was my first clue.”

Smart ass.

Rolling my eyes, I tilt my gaze skyward for a moment before looking back at him.

Despite my reservations, I find myself reluctantly handing over the book to Rider. Eager fingers snatch the book from my grasp, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth as he opens it.

“Please, don’t judge.”

“Butterfly, there’s nothing you could ever do that would make me judge you.”

I watch intently as Ryder begins to flip through the pages when one of his letters falls from the book. My cheeks flush as I watch it descend, almost in slow motion.

The crumpled paper falls gently, drifting through the air. It twists and turns, caught by the slightest breeze from the open window inside my room, before finally coming to rest on the ground below.

“You kept them?” Ryder says, his eyes trained on the hand-written note lying on the ground.

“Yeah,” I admit, unable to meet his gaze. “I kept all your letters.”

He picks up the letter, stuffs it in the dream book, and after a few more page flips, discovers his other letters.

The silence in the room, save for the occasional flip of a page, is torturous.

I can only imagine what he must think when he discovers his name doodled in the margins with hearts and our initials scribbled next to them.

Ryder hasn’t touched alcohol since the night we first made love, but I won’t be surprised if he turns back to the bottle after witnessing my level of crazy obsession.

I told my mom about us, and while she’s supportive, Frank still has no idea about our relationship. That’s a problem that keeps me up at night, but I guess we’ll deal with that when the time comes.
